What happens at an appointment?

On your first visit to our practice a full case history will be taken.  We will ask you details about your presenting problem as well as questions about your medical history.  This will allow us to form a complete picture of your general health.

You will then be asked to undress down to your underwear so that a thorough examination can be performed.  If you do not wish to undress or would prefer to have someone with you, please tell your osteopath.

The physical examination will look at your posture along with your general flexibility, joint mechanics and muscle function.

If necessary your osteopath will test the function of your nervous system and check your blood pressure. Other tests such as X Rays or blood test may be considered necessary.  If this is the case then you will be referred back to your GP or to a private clinic.

Your osteopath will explain what she feels is causing your problems and what if anything she feels she can offer to help.  You will be given a treatment plan and advised as to how many treatments may be needed.

Consultations normally last 30 minutes.
